About Barracuda Photography

Photography has been a part of my family for three generations now, with both of my grandfathers being amateur photographers, and my father also taking an interest in capturing images in his younger years. Of course in those early days a lot more work went into creating a photograph, so some of the dark-room skills and also some early equipment has been handed on to me. Unfortunately it's pretty unlikely I'll go back to the 'old school ways', with the comparative ease of the digital age! My brother Silas is also a professional photographer - he travels the world surfing and photographing surfers. You can check out his work here at primophotos.com. My sister Rebecca is also a keen amateur photographer in Auckland.

As well as having a family history of photography my Grandfather was a motor mechanic, as well as being one of NZ's first dealers of the famous and prestigious Cadillac brand of cars in Napier, prior to the massive earthquake that struck the region in 1931. Perhaps the love of automobiles does run in the family, as I am also a qualified motor mechanic, a job which I still very much enjoy after twenty years in the trade, and am an avid drag racing and motor sports fan. I am also a keen hot rodder, with two current projects - a 1955 Chevy, and a 1923 T Bucket, powered by a 1941 Cadillac flathead engine. I'm a member of Western Bays Street Rodders in Porirua, near Wellington.

I have been keen on taking photos since I received my first 'Instamatic' camera as a youngster, upgrading over the years to the present time when I am using the latest Canon 30D digital SLR camera, along with various lenses and accessories required for different requirements. I tend to prefer photographing subject matter which interests me the most, therefore the hot rodding and drag racing images seem to fill my albums. I also freelance as a writer and photographer for NZ Petrolhead and NZ Rodder Magazines, and occasionally the Australian DRAGS & Pro Street magazine - all of which are fantastic publications, and I am proud to be a small (and hopefully) valuable part of.

I set up this web site in order to have a portal to display my work, and also after many many requests, to enable customers to purchase images online with minimal fuss.

Thanks for taking a look!
